Vondelpark

The green heart of Amsterdam!
Commonly known as the "green lung" of the city by Amsterdam residents, this park was laid out in the middle of the 19th century (1860) on the initiative of the wealthy bourgeoisie.
You can enjoy long walks there, thanks to its extensive lawns, pathways, shrubs and ornamental lakes along an area which measures one and a half kilometres in length and three hundred metres wide!
Its name is an homage to the great 17th century poet and author/dramatist Jost van den Vondel.
Today, it is a haven for joggers, frisbee and football players, and of course for children!
